Situated on the lower slopes of Mount Pantokrator, with a dazzling view across the sea to Albania and the Greek mainland, Villa Petros is a lovingly restored old Corfiot house nestling in its own five acre olive grove, a five-minute drive from beaches and tavernas.

Formerly the bakery for the three local villages of Nissaki, Katavolo and Apolisies, Petros was bought in the early 70s by an English family who, apart from putting in plumbing and running water, did little else to change the house. Then three years ago the owners decided to realise the house's potential with a major programme of modernisation and extension.

The first step was a very large and beautiful horizon swimming pool, where swimmers can enjoy views of Corfu town and Albania, passing cruise ships and even birds of prey gliding around nearby peaks. The house was then extended from two to five bedrooms, with little landings and balconies added, and from one bathroom to three. Furnished in an eclectic mix of Persian carpets and Greek rugs, French beds and Greek storage chests, Petros became a spacious and comfortable family home.

Below the house are flagstoned terraces offering sun or shade for those relaxing by the pool or under the olive trees; by early summer they are awash with plumbago, bougainvillea, jasmine, hibiscus and mimosa, lavender, jacaranda and pomegranate. Villa Petros is altogether an idyllic place to stay.
